Microform is a data preservation method that involves photographing documents at a reduced scale, with the reduction ratio typically set according to national standards, usually at 24 or 48 times smaller. Microform data is characterized by its long-term preservation capabilities, with a lifespan of several centuries, and is resistant to tampering. As a result, it is widely used in libraries, archives, and other institutions for preserving valuable documents or materials.

Common types of microform data include:

• Microfilm: Classified by width into three standards: 16mm, 35mm, and 105mm.

• Microfiche

• Microopaque
