S-VHS is an enhanced version of the VHS tape format introduced by Sony in 1987, designed to improve image quality and compete with other high-end formats like Betamax and Hi8. S-VHS uses advanced video processing technology to offer higher resolution and better sound quality, making it particularly suitable for users with high-quality video demands.

Common S-VHS Types:

• S-VHS Standard: Designed for both home and professional use, offering superior image and sound quality, with a tape cassette size of 18.9 * 12.2 * 2.5 cm.

• S-VHS-C (Compact version): To meet portability needs, S-VHS introduced a compact version for small camcorders, capable of recording approximately 30 minutes of video, with a cassette size of 6.7 * 4.8 * 1.1 cm.

S-VHS offers more than 400 horizontal lines of resolution, significantly improving image clarity, and supports Hi-Fi stereo audio recording. Although it requires compatible S-VHS equipment for playback, this format was widely adopted in professional and educational fields between 1987 and the 1990s, replacing some U-matic systems. With the rise of digital video formats, S-VHS gradually became obsolete but remained in use by some organizations into the early 2000s.
